The Delaware Highlands is the tri-state region where the Catskills and the Pocono Mountains converge along the Delaware River.  In New York, the Highlands is anchored by Port Jervis, a post-industrial town on the river with commuter rail service to NYC.  Just seven miles away, the Pennsylvania side of the Highlands revolves around the mountain town of Milford, a charming summer retreat since the 19th century, “birthplace of the conservation movement,” and now the northern entrance to the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.  In New Jersey, the Highlands is sparsely populated, with farms and High Point State Park, designed by the sons of Fredrick Law Olmstead of Central Park fame.
